Walk humbly

~Tuesday Thoughts~

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
  And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
  and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8 (NIV)

(I'm dividing this into 3 posts: "act justly", "love mercy" and "walk humbly".)

Webster's dictionary (1993) defines humble as "marked by meekness or modesty; unpretentious; lowly".

Just try to imagine how God humbled Himself when Jesus was born, lived and died as a human being Jesus left HEAVEN (which is too amazing for us to understand yet) to come here for us.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29 (NIV)

5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
    by taking the very nature of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
        even death on a cross!
Philippians 2:5-8 (NIV)

We need to walk humbly too, however hard, ridiculous and just plain weird it may seem. This world constantly tells us that we are so cool, amazing, great, awesome, magnificent.... Guess what? We're not. And we should remember that more. WE ARE NOTHING WITHOUT CHRIST. We should walk humbly with our God.

 For the Lord takes delight in his people;
  he crowns the humble with victory.
Psalm 149:4 (NIV)

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:12 (NIV)

Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Ephesians 4:2 (NIV)

Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10 (NIV)

How about you? What do you think about 'walking humbly'?
