How was Christmas?

Hi! How was Christmas? Mine was pretty good. We had fun with our family, opening presents and building fortresses out of snow. Dad jokes that today is a sad day. "364 days till Christmas". Please comment below. I'd love to hear how you celebrated Christ's birth.

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas! Christmas is so near I can hardly believe it. (How did come so quickly? Maybe I'm just growing up and years pass by faster now). I hope everybody has a wonderful holiday. Lord, please help us not to forget the real reason for Christmas among all this last minute shopping and all.

The Language of Sparrows by Rachel Phifer

The Language of Sparrows is an amazing book, telling us of the many hardships of life and how, together with God, we can heal. It doesn't mean "painting rainbows", pretending nothing has happened, but something else, something more.

Typical Sierra (the teenager)-She shook her head and tried again. "'This city now doth, like a garment, wear the beauty of the afternoon'. It's afternoon now. I don't think Wordsworth would have minded."

The characters are very real, people whose feelings many of us can understand. The story is told from three viewpoints which adds clarity for the motives of each one's actions.

This isn't a teen book, though one of the three viewpoints are a teen's. The Language of Sparrows is a long book, and when I was just beginning it, I felt like it would never end. But later on the sweet story drew me again and again. This is a wonderful tale of grief, love, and being able to heal.

First Date by Krista McGee

I'm now rereading First Date. It is a unique story loosely based on Esther. It is AWESOME! It has reality TV and cool stuff like that, but from a Christian girl's point of view.

Typical Addy- "People on reality TV are there for a reason. They want attention. I don't want attention. I want to get good grades and get into an Ivy League School. Period."

Being a quiet girl, Addy Davidson's plans were to finish high school and get into a good Ivy League college. Period. Her plans are shattered when she is chosen to represent her Christian school in Tampa, Florida on a reality TV show. This is the last thing she wants, especially since the "prize" is a date with the president's son. But as the story unfolds, Addy finds out for herself that God has all things under control.

Tournaments, Cocoa and One Wrong Move by Nancy Rue

I've recently read a great book by Nancy Rue - Tournaments,Cocoa and One Wrong Move. It was an amazing story. Here's a review of it.

Typical Cassidy- "See , I think that's a weird question. I think the question should be 'Why doesn't EVERYBODY want to win? Why would you want to put yourself out there without wanting to be the best?"

Basketball. It’s her passion. It’s her love. It’s the only time she doesn't feel scared of anything. And it all goes down with one fall…
Cassidy Brewster, whose love and skill for basketball seem immeasurable, feels lost when a fall on the court leaves her knee swelling to three times its size. Will she ever be able to play again? And when a med student offers her supplements in secret should she take them?

Cassidy certainly is “real” in this third book of the Real Life series. Her perfectionism and longing to be the best are something many girls can relate to. But as she is rid of the thing she loves most Cassidy learns lessons she couldn't have learned always being the star.

I certainly recommend this book to all girls who think they have to be "perfect" (I'm there too). God loves us all just the way we are. :)
