Have you
ever heard an adult (anywhere from 25-125 years old) say something like this: “Just
look at this generation. Clicking constantly on their little iPods and iPads
and iPhones on a something called Facebook. We didn’t have an iThingy or
a Facebook when we were kids. What is this world coming to?” Well, maybe not exactly that, but it seems
like skepticism to the younger generations comes with age. Parents do it.
Grandparents do it. Teachers do it. It’s frustrating sometimes. Like really,
was absolutely everything better and spotless and perfect when they were kids? I
don’t think so.
But I think
it just comes naturally. Probably the ones giving us a hard time now got a hard
time themselves when they were teens. :) The mind is interesting – it doesn’t
remember everything. (And that’s good, really.) So, the adults that say that everything
was so much better 10 or 30 or 50 years ago don’t really remember the bad parts
too well. We won’t remember everything either. Just imagine, 50 years from now
(if the world’s still here and we’re still alive) this just might come out of
your mouth: “Just look at this generation. Flying here and there on their
little helicopters. In my day we had cars. And we were glad and we appreciated
it when we had cars. Not like you – taking this all for granted. What is this
world coming to?” :)
So… All my little chatter up there didn’t solve
the problem, did it? We might understand them better, but that doesn’t make
them stop doing it, does it? There is something we can do about it,
though. Consider this:
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. ~ 1 Timothy 4:12
If we, the teens, do that maybe some of the adults will stop and say “Hey… Maybe this generation isn’t that bad after all.” Wouldn’t that be cool? We can at least try.
good article. yes, what's wrong with this generation is that us Christian teens need to show the dark world what can be done by those who rebel aginst the low standards of young people. It is not the Grannys and Grandpas who can show God's light in the next generation, its todays youth. We have the Gospel we should live it and share it.
